Our free construction calculators turn the dimensions you already have into the order quantities you actually need — cubic yards of ready-mix, bags of concrete, board feet of lumber, square footage of shingles, and the cost of each. They are built for general contractors, masons, framers, and weekend DIYers who want a fast, defensible estimate before they call the supplier or rent the mixer. Every tool supports both imperial and metric units and lets you adjust the assumptions that quietly wreck most estimates: bag yield, material density, waste factor, and unit price.

What construction estimators get wrong

The biggest source of error is forgetting waste and over-rounding. A 10 ft by 10 ft slab poured 4 inches thick is 1.23 cubic yards of concrete, but order exactly 1.23 yd³ and a single wheelbarrow spill leaves you short — most pros add 5–10% overage, which our concrete slab calculator applies automatically. Bagged concrete is even less forgiving: that same slab needs roughly 56 eighty-pound bags, since each 80 lb bag yields only about 0.022 yd³. Roofing is sold by the “square” (100 ft²), so a 1,500 ft² roof with a 6:12 pitch covers about 1,680 ft² of actual surface — roughly 17 squares before the 10–15% waste allowance for hips, valleys, and starter courses.

Pick the right tool for the job

For driveways, footings, and patios, the concrete calculator handles slabs, columns, tubes, and stairs in one place and converts your measurements into both yardage and bag count. Framing a wall? The stud calculator figures stud count at 16-inch on-center spacing plus plates, accounting for corners and openings. Whatever the trade, start with the dimensions, confirm the density and waste defaults match your material, and you will have a supplier-ready estimate in seconds.
