How much mulch, soil, or gravel do you really need?

One cubic yard covers 324 square feet at 1 inch deep, so a 200 ft² bed mulched 3 inches deep needs about 1.85 cubic yards — or roughly 25 of the 2-cubic-foot bags sold at the garden center.
